PMR446 – it stands for Private Mobile Radio, 446 MHz – is the European equivalent of FRS in the US. What makes it special is the lack of any license requirement: in most of Europe, you can legally buy a PMR446 walkie talkie, switch it on, and start transmitting with zero registration.
